Tropical Shipping Adds First Mobile Cranes to US Virgin Islands

Tropical Shipping has ordered four Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour cranes in a move that will significantly increase container-handling capacity in Florida and the US Virgin Islands.

The order includes one crane for Tropical Shipping’s base at the Port of Palm Beach in Riviera Beach, one for St Croix and two for St Thomas. The units destined for St Croix and St Thomas will be the first mobile harbour cranes deployed on either island, reducing reliance on shipboard lifting equipment.

Delivery and commissioning of the four ESP.6 cranes are scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. Each unit has a maximum lifting capacity of 125 tonnes and an outreach of up to 49 metres, and can run on diesel-electric or external shore power to cut emissions.
