The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index rose for a sixth consecutive session, climbing about 2.8% to 2,875 points — its highest level since June 8 — on stronger demand for iron ore and coal cargoes and continued strength in the Atlantic market.
The capesize index, which tracks vessels typically carrying 150,000-tonne cargoes such as iron ore and coal, advanced for a sixth day, adding 205 points to 4,514. The panamax index edged up 0.7% to 2,245 points, while the supramax index gained 0.6% to 1,686.
Only the smaller handysize segment softened, with rates easing marginally across most routes as activity slowed.
